All hailz and welcome on board !! First of all what are the freshest news from the ANTAEUS camp ? How were the reactions towards your last gigs ?
*** it sucked.
Osmose Prods did rerelease the "CYFAWS" masterpiece because of, I suppose, the quasi absence of proper distribution of it by Baphomet Recs. I must say that the layout simply kills and that the video bonuses are very "enjoyable" ehehe. What does this album represent for you today ? Are you satisfied with this rerelease ?
*** CYFAWS wouldn’t be the favorite release of mine, I never play that cd myself, some tracks are still intense though (inner war, devotee, bleeding...). We had this piece out on limited format ( a thousand copies) just to get an european distribution (only 400 cds were shipped to europa on the initial press)& that was a good way to close the contract with Osmose faster, we did own them three albums, so that’s only one remaining now. Visually : perfect, I wanted it that way, minimalist & sober.
An EP is out now (sold out ??) on brother Berzerk’s own Battlesk’rs Recs. Please explain what’s lyrically "hidden" behind this release and introduce us the new line-up and its implication in this release.
*** a newer incarnation & more mature with individuals more active within the scene & more years behind them. Lyric wise, related to the ONA. & the Bside track is just one of the very first AntaeuS tracks we did re record. (though it ended up only havin one riff from the initial tracks & lyrics changed a bit to fit in) I do not think the ep is sold out, I got to get a massmailing from Berzerk today & it was said to be "still available" !
Several split Eps were planned on the cult label End All Life Recs and others. Are they still on the way to be released ?
*** the split series with MALICIOUS SECRETS shall see the light in some months from now, we are finishing the mixing of our track "Gates to the Outside" (lyrics by Drakh of KATHARSIS). To be honest, I have no clue about the MS tracks & how far they are completed, I know that MÜTIILATION had some recording problems to fix & that the DSO track should be finished by now.Very curious to see how the whole would evolve.
Some excellent and obscure bands seem to emerge from the deepest underground to unleash true jewels today in France... I think here to MALICIOUS SECRETS (killer 7’’ EP on Ordealis Recs), DARVULIA ("Belladone" EP on Battlesk’rs Prods), MALKHEBRE (self produced promo tape), DARK OPUS (his side on the split with DEMONCY on Spikekult Reks) or the last and terrible TEMPLE OF BAAL album !! What do you think about these (more or less) young bands ? Do you know some other worthy bands from France ?
*** the bands you mentionned would all catch my interest & I would collect anything those acts would release, since they are serious about their Art & would provide me something. We shall do a split with MALICIOUS SECRETS in the future & might share stage with them as well, I guess it would say it all about our support to this band from Marseille. About other bands, INQUINATUS & HAEMOTH are definitly "must have", the first just did release their first demo & HAEMOTH is already a cult figure for some, with amazing lps out ("satanik terrorism" being my fave) About TEMPLE OF BAAL : make sure to pay a listen to their split with SARGEIST !!!
I talked earlier of the supposed to be dead Spikekult Reks... The last releases are awesome like the DEMONCY / DARK OPUS split 7’’EP or the AVERSE SEFIRA / SECRETS OF THE MOON (aaaargh !!). Will you put out some other black-metal weapons soon ? Do you have some projects concerning the Spikekult “career†celebration ? It’s an idea I have thought about many times... A festival which would gather some of the earlier Spikekult bands like URGRUND, MALICIOUS SECRETS, SECRETS OF THE MOON, DARK OPUS, HELL MILITIA, ARKHON INFAUSTUS and... of course your godly (yeah brother) band ANTAFUCKINGEUS !!!
*** there are mostly no bands that were related to SPIKEKULT that would interested in such event & most of them seem to regret workin with SPK as much as I regret working with them. SPK is no more & was a mistake.
I’m still interested by the old zines and I know yours was quite a good one. I have the second issue and wanna know how many issues were put out. And if you wouldn’t be interested to reactivate it too ehehe. What were the reasons for you to stop at that time ? Time ? Money ? Rip-off ?
*** the three options you gave are actually responsible for the end of Impaired (my version & not the grindcore one that latest a few more copies than mince) I grew bored somehow very fast with the zine, & to be honest, even if each of them had like a printrun of 200/300 I barely sold more than 10 ? rest was either given away, lost in the post (you know the deal) & just bad trade with cheesy demo tape. Reactivating the zine was in my mind at some point, but then again, it wouldn’t be a smart idea of mine to loose time I already seek. I think I only did 4 issue myself, the fifth was completed but simply thrown in the trashbin, sent the demos to others so they could review them.
As I know you’re a very busy person, I just would like to know, to finish with this silly interview, if you have new songs and if you will release the next album on Osmose Prods. If yes, when ? Do you have an idea about the lyrical / musical orientation you will use ?
*** the musical/lyrical orientation is somehow in the same vein as the DPE opus, for those who had the opportunity to give a listen to the latest 7’’ of ours out on Battleskr’s, they know what to expect, the side A track shall be included in the forthcoming album (in a different version though) - Anything great is built upon Sorrow. So far only 5 tracks are completed & only 3 have lyrics, I guess I should try to find more time to work on the whole, but this is simply impossible for the months to come I guess. Visually, expect something in the vein of this ep & the re issue of CYFAWS (or in case the zine is out late in mid 2005, check the cover of the split ep with Malicious Secrets to be out on EAL)
Aaaaargh this already was the third ANTAEUS interview I send you. Hope you’ll find it interesting to answer. Hope to see you again soon ! To drink a "Gavroche" or a "Fin du Monde" eheeh. Keep blacking ! Keep Hunting the Chapel too ahaha !! I sold my soul to ANTAEUS and hope to die soon. Hailz.
