Hailz !! What are the latest news concerning the mighty TEMPLE OF BAAL ? Some tour date ?
Hail ! Well no, no dates for the moment. Some plans but nothing confirmed. Our new album "Traitors To Mankind" is just out, and in the meanwhile, we are working on new tracks for the next album, we are pretty inspired these days, the burning winds of Hell are blowing again and our blood is boiling with Hatred ! Satan’s Metal is stronger than ever !
I have to congratulate you hell fuckin’ brother !!! The album (available on Oaken Shield / Adipocere silly readers !!) is a total masterpiece from Hell 666 !!! I found the thrashy influences more developed but, maybe it’s paradoxical, I found your black-metal side stronger than ever ! In which state of mind were you when you recorded the album ?
Thank you ! It’s always a pleasure to know that our music is appreciated by true fucking metalheads like you ! In which state of mind... Well we simply wanted to record our stuff in a dark and efficient way. The composition of the album went on for like one year, or at least several months, during which I was highly critical regarding my own composition work. If I’m not satisfied 100% with a tune, we simply abort it. This is one of the reasons for which the album is not so long. It’s true that I wanted to emphasise a bit more the thrashy side of TEMPLE OF BAAL through this album, simply because I’m fucking fond of thrash metal ! But also, we don’t want to deny our deep attachment to true Black Metal. So indeed, you can find both in our music.
It seems that the lp version will be put out by the Battlesk’rs squadron (hailz Berzerk !!). When will it be out ? Picture ? Gatefold ? Bonus track ? How many copies ?
It is out, actually. A gatefold LP with insert, including one bonus track called “vomits of hate”. Fast, furious, fucking insulting song !
A live tape is out on Pâleur Mortelle Prods (hailz Akhaeus !!). Is it still available ? I know there were 300 copies, much more than a usual PMP release (100-150 copies...). Why so much tapes ? When was this set recorded ?
Why so many tapes, simply because I did not want it to be “over limited”. Our previous releases had been limited to 300 copies (demo and split LP), and were sold out very quickly, it would have been stupid to limit the live tape to an even smaller amount. We do these releases for true underground warriors, who are not so numerous in this world, but what is the goal of releasing only 100 copies ? It’s frustrating for many people who would deserve to have the tape, and it would encourage some fucking subhuman to buy several tapes and to sell them for high prices on E-gay. 300 copies is more reasonable, I think. The set was recorded on the 11/01/03, our last-in-date concert in Paris.
I know that the « Satanas lux solis » reh tape is sold out since ages, so are the Chanteloup tape and the killer split LP with ETERNAL MAJESTY (hailz Paul !) too. But is the Adipocere mcd still available (888 copies pffffff.... !) ? Is the last album limited ? 888 ? Ehehe...
Well at least it’s sold out from Adipocere’s side. It was even sold out quite quickly ! But I think some distribution lists still carry a few copies. 888 ? (666/6)*8. No other signification. And for your info, it’s not at all linked to a political view. I always say that Black Metal has nothing to do with politics, I haven’t changed my mind. And by the way, we are not the ones who decided to limit it to 888 copies. Adipocere did. But well, no big deal, it’s an old story, I don’t give a shit anymore. I look towards the future. Not towards the past.
You often play live isn’t it ? You seem to like it quite a lot. Aren’t live performances a proof of a band’s capacity to slay a crowd ? What do you think about the lazy bastards who don’t want to play live because they’re simply too shy to desecrate a scene ? And about the one-man-band trend ?
We don’t play live that much anymore. In Paris, the gigs situation is catastrophic today. Back in 98-2000 it was much easier to play live. Now, the main hall where we could play (Club Dunois) has closed its door to metal gigs, and the other halls are very expensive. And many associations have quit, because they fell in bankrupt as not enough people came to the gigs. As for gigs in other areas than Paris, we are open to any proposal, but it’s not that easy anymore for us, because of our jobs. Live performances are Metal. A good Metal show is always something great. But I don’t have anything against one-man bands, some metal styles would not fit a concert hall, especially if it’s very “intimate” music. You see, I have a side project called BANISHED SPIRITS, it is slow and gloomy Dark Metal. I do everything on my own. I would not perform live with this one, because the music I play with it is way too “dreamy”, it’s not at all energic like TEMPLE OF BAAL. By the way, you’ll get a chance to hear it, as a split 7”EP is going to be out on DUKE, with ENSAMHET (BAEL side-project). Of course, if a band plays energetic music and is too shy to play live, it sucks !
What were the most violent / amazing bands you played with ? Are there some bands you dream to play with ? BLACK SABBATH / IRON MAIDEN / CELTIC FROST / DESTRUCTION / MAYHEM / TEMPLE OF BAAL uh ??? Eheh !!
Well man, if you organise THIS gig tomorrow, count me on the bill ! Hehe... Playing with VENOM also would surely be an experience... or with SODOM, hell ! Or the crazy NIFELHEIM guys ! What is the most amazing band we played with, I don’t know. I have great recollections of TRIUMPHATOR, WATAIN and IMPIETY. One of the best concert memories also is with BARBATOS in Toulouse... Fuck, that was a night to remember !

Overkill : MOTÖRHEAD... I was blown away at Wacken man... Such an energy... Three guys on stage, a wall of sound, a killer attitude... Fuck, MOTÖRHEAD KILLS !
Deathcrush : Legendary... I prefer “De Mysteriis Dom Satanas” but this one had great numbers too. It’s one of those releases that reek spontaneity... Something often forgotten today by so-called Metal bands !
War pigs : Great BLACK SABBATH song ! Tony Iommi has been a big influence for me... Master in the art of riffing and his sound was so special... All the BLACK SABBATH albums with Ozzy are total masterpieces !
Peace sells... but who’s buying ? : Good stuff, good album, but I was much more into METALLICA than MEGADETH. From them, I prefer the “Rust In Peace” album with Marty Friedman.

The Trooper : I am still a fan of IRON MAIDEN after all these years. This band incarnates musically what Heavy Metal means to me. Eternal respect from my side !

Obsessed by cruelty : One of the bridges between thrash and BM. I prefer “Agent Orange” which has more catchy songs, but this album is so raw and bestial...
Welcome to Hell : They started the infamy... VENOM fucking rules !All those songs/albums are fucking excellent... And would deserve some covers ! Maybe also “Ace Of Spades” (aaaaaaargh !!!), some MEGADETH from the “Rust In Peace” album... Fuck, all those songs and albums are part of my recurrent playlist ! Hail Metal !

Alas, painful memories. I wanted to do it, but never could release it, as I went into money problems. And when they were solved, the inties were way too much outdated... Too bad. So, forget about it, it will never exist.
